NIN to conduct an awareness program on laboratory animals

According to NIN, the program will be informative for research scholars, young scientists, technicians, and students working in the field of lab animal sciences.

As part of the World Laboratory Animal Day Celebrations, the Animal Resource Facility of Hyderabad-based National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) will conduct an awareness program that will feature lectures by eminent speakers on laboratory animals, talks on breeding, health management, modern tools and latest techniques for the welfare of animals, ethics and approvals in lab animal usage and use of technology for minimizing the use of animals for experimental purposes.

The National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) is an Indian Public health, Nutrition and Translational research center located in Hyderabad, India.[ The institute is one of the oldest research centers in India, and the largest center, under the Indian Council of Medical Research, located in the vicinity of Osmania University. The institute has associated clinical and pediatric nutrition research wards at various hospitals such as the Niloufer Hospital for Women and Children, the Government Maternity Hospital, the Gandhi Medical College and the Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad.

According to NIN, the program will be informative for research scholars, young scientists, technicians and students working in the field of lab animal sciences. The participants will also take pledge to minimize and rationalize the use of laboratory animals.

The World Laboratory Animal Day is observed to recognize the role of laboratory animals in research for developing diagnostic kits, pharmaceuticals and bio-pharmaceuticals for the benefits of human beings and livestock.
