Quite true to these immortal lines, three youngsters, including one pursuing his Master’s in Australia, chose to do something completely unexpected. They dared to chase and catch two juveniles allegedly involved in a mobile phone snatching case in Tarnaka. The trio was felicitated by Hyderabad Commissioner Anjani Kumar who applauded their courage.
One day, after dinner, Dheeraj Kumar, who is pursuing his Master’s in Australia, was commuting with his friend Srikanth, an IT employee, and Pramod, an animation designer. “When we were crossing the Tarnaka stretch, we saw a man chasing a two-wheeler. I enquired and got to know that bike borne miscreants snatched his mobile phone. Immediately, Srikanth and I chased them on our Activa, while Pramod was on a motorcycle. The phone snatchers were young and driving at high speed,” Dheeraj said.
A few minutes later, the snatchers tried to disappear into the narrow lanes of Mettuguda. “We followed them and found them sitting in an auto rickshaw. To avoid suspicion, they kept their motorcycle in a local parking area with other vehicles. The police reached the spot by then and seized the phone from them,” he said.
The two accused, aged 16 and 17, were no ordinary juveniles. They were involved in six cases in Malkajgiri, Nallakunta, Lalaguda and Osmania University police station areas.
The trio said they felt great to have helped someone for whom a mobile phone matters a lot. “The scene of a man running on the road asking for help is still afresh in my mind. When he asked for help, I immediately decided to help him,” said Srikanth.
Dheeraj returned for a vacation from Australia last month and was happy about doing something, which he would remember all his life. Hyderabad Commissioner Anjani Kumar felicitated them at a function for their bravery and asked citizens to come forward in curbing crime in Hyderabad.
