Asia’s largest Youth Football Tournament – The Subroto Cup International Football Tournament was conducted at the Ambedkar Stadium. Air Marshal PP Bapat VSM, Air Officer-in-charge-Administration & Vice Chairman, Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society (SMSES) was welcomed as the chief guest for the opening ceremony. The first match was played among the sub-junior U-14 category. It was held between the Reliance Foundation School (RFS) and Jharkhand’s Lilanand High School.
The Reliance Foundation School started the match in an organized manner. With the help of Sanathoi Singh, they have made an early lead in the fourth minute. Later, in their 22nd minute, Sanathoi Singh scored another to double the team score.
The gap was widened with the goal made by Srijal Raj in the 23rd minute. Akash Hembram from the Jharkand team gave a comeback goal to narrow the gap to 3-1 in the 23rd minute. The second half of the game was even much similar to the first half; there weren’t many goals. But, the final goal by Aditya Dhingra at the 38th minute made the Reliance Foundation School defeat Jharkhand’s Lilanand High School 4-1 in Pool A.
This year, the tournament is going to experience a record number of 112 teams participating. Among these, 16 are international teams. The ultimate goal for all these teams is to win the prize in the Sub Junior Boys (U-14), Junior (U-17) Boys & Girls categories.
